Catherine's Breast
Augmentation Revision
"I was self conscious about my body before my breast augmentation; but afterwards I was still self conscious, just in a different way," recalls Catherine, a 24-year-old, married, college graduate. About 3 years earlier, she had a breast augmentation to create a balanced look that complimented her small frame. "I went from having nothing to 'Whoa!'," she recalls. "At first I was OK with my breasts even though they were larger than I had wanted. But over the next couple of years, the implants began to fall."
Breast Implant Bottoming Out
Catherine's breast implants were bottoming out, meaning that the skin on the lower half of her breasts had stretched to the point where it no longer supported her implants. While women can experience a variety of breast augmentation complications, bottoming out can give the breasts an unbalanced shape and may cause the nipples to sit unnaturally high on the breasts.
"As time went by my breasts looked worse," says Catherine. "I couldn't find bras that fit and I felt too self conscious to wear strappy tops and dresses." She knew she needed help, but she didn't feel comfortable going back to the surgeon who had done her original surgery. Instead, she made an appointment to see Dr. Mark Crispin, a board-certified plastic surgeon who was recommended to her by a friend who was very happy with her breast augmentation. "I wasn't sure what he could do, but I needed him to do something," Catherine recalls.
During her consultation, Catherine described her concerns to Dr. Crispin. He told her that he could perform a breast augmentation revision and replace her large implants for smaller ones. He performed a physical examination and confirmed that Catherine was experiencing complications that called for additional measures. "We need to fix this," he told her.
Revision using Strattice™ TM
"I just wanted to have pretty breasts again," says Catherine. "Dr. Crispin said that switching my big implants for smaller ones would only solve part of the problem. To assist in preventing the skin from stretching out again, he recommended using Strattice™ Reconstructive Tissue Matrix (TM) to form 'little hammocks' that would support the lower half of the implants internally. This solution made sense to me. It was the assurance I needed to feel confident."
Strattice™ TM is an acellular reconstructive tissue matrix designed to reinforce weak tissue and support tissue regeneration.
